“…the cheese stands alone…"
A LUDWIG DANCE THEATRE AND FRIENDS A Ludwig Dance Theatre took a look to the past and selected four dancers who have danced within the Company ranks at some time during its past 32 years; dancers who claim an international stage for their choreography; and a group that looks to the future of dance in their individual styles and processes. Joining choreographer Ann Ludwig for A Ludwig Dance Theatre and Friends 2010 series of performances will be Babs Case, Mary Fitzgerald, Kelly Roth, and Karen Schupp. Check them out at www.aludwigdance.org. These five diversified works show a range and a scope of dance and theatre ideas as articulated by five choreographers who have been collectively dancing the language for a very long time. From blatant theatre dance by Roth, fun and physically challenging work from Schupp, complimented by the visual explorations of Case, and investigation into the ritual of performing by Fitzgerald, this multiple look at new dance provides a rich landscape to individually explore as dances unfold in the intimate environment of the Studio at the new Tempe Center for the Arts. Also on the program…the cheese stands alone…makes a comeback into the zany world that lives somewhere below the line of polite and political acceptability in the name of art. Chef Mark Vanek and six dancers push the limits with music by Brian Kunnari and the gently skewed commentary of the “farmer in the dell”.

Bankers, bartenders, and high level chefs, all get a piece of the action when A Ludwig Dance Theatre turns its collective mind to finding out why the cheese stands alone. Choreographer Ann Ludwig, TV "foodie", churns it up with Brian Kunnari, composer of all things possible, and chef Mark Vanek as six dancers ease their way through a menu of outrageous concoctions in the name of good cheese. The farmer may have picked the wife, and the rat the cheese, but what in our society encouraged the cheese to pick no one. Too much TV, moldy political dishes, or maybe some awareness it is safer to not pick at all.
