A Ludwig Dance Theatre Tempe Center for the Arts
April 16, 17, 18 @ 7:30pm Flyer (PDF) HIGHLIGHTING “ …the cat takes the rat…hi ho the derry o the cat takes the rat…the rat takes the cheese…the rat takes the cheese…hi ho the derry o the rat takes the cheese.…the cheese stands alone…” AND A continuation of the collaborative community project Glass Blocks/Steel Bars with videographers Nancy Happel and Tom Eldridge, poet-writer Roberta Burnett, Attorney-Judge--Public Defender-Consultant, Laurie Herman and Ann Ludwig, choreographer, and dancers. With a basic philosophy that co-joins all the arts, A Ludwig Dance Theatre has collaborated with visual artists, composers, sculptors, symphonies, actors, writers, costume artists, videographers, dancers of all genres and ages, performance artists, and now in Glass Blocks/Steel Bars, a public defender and in …a cheese stands alone… a dancing chef. Organized in 1977 in California, A Ludwig Dance Theatre moved to Tempe in 1979 and began its Arizona involvement with creating and community. Since then they have performed and taught across the United States and parts of Europe. An astute observer of human behavior, Ludwig’s work surrounds us with quality of life issues yet at other times the sheer joy of movement and rhythm resound. The New York Times wrote: Ludwig’s pieces careen through a wide assortment of female responses in theatre-dance that has all the ragged irrational reasonableness of life lived slightly below the polite formalities. The work in Festival 2009 has been supported, in part, by the city of Tempe, The Arizona Commission on the Arts, The National Endowment for the Arts, The Emeritus College of ASU.
