A Woman I Know

A Ludwig Dance Theater produces A Woman I Know April 14-17, 2005, at the Tempe Performing Arts Center, 132 East 6th Street in downtown Tempe. Now in its 28th year of continuous performance for audiences of all ages, director and choreographer Ann Ludwig brings together dancers and visions that touch some small familiar place in each of us yet brazenly reflect another way to be.

In A Woman I Know, the Company unites in pursuing the cycle of family, epic in scope, complex in style, and tender in memory. Taking directions from the strength and determination, the outrageous humor and unquestioned passion choreographer Ludwig saw reflected in her daughter, her mother, and a dear friend, all who recently passed away, the work reaches into many corners of the mind and the heart becoming stronger for the search.

Internationally acclaimed artist and sculptor John Waddell's work, four larger than life sculptures and a number of his paintings, will be part of the environment in which the dancers perform. Waddell has long felt the diversity of the individual stands upper most in his belief and thus his work. This philosophy partners Ludwig's concept of making dances, resulting in collaboration with direction and focus.

Accompanying the three part concert, video artist Tom Eldridge and videographer, dancer Nancy Happel become the third component to the production with striking and sensitive moving visuals that enhance and compliment the overall work.

Dancers in the performance are: Nancy Happel, Beth Lessard, Jean McDade, Aaron Robinson, Karen Schupp, Raymond Shaw, Jennifer Walker, Jia Wu. Music runs from classic to country to gospel to jazz, and more.

A Ludwig Dance Theatre is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization since 1979.
